Dan Reitz is a freelance musician and teacher based in Brooklyn, New York.
As a trombonist, he performs in a wide range of settings including traditional jazz, free improvisation, rock and afropop. He was a high school all-American: he performed with the 2000 Grammy High School Jazz Ensemble and won several national teenage composition awards. He is currently a member of several New York City- and Buffalo-area ensembles: Ida Blue, Ramforinkus, The Essex, The MK Groove Orchestra, and Charli Persip’s Supersound. His freelance credits include dates with The Walkmen, Sly Blue, Dalton Ridenhour, Gordon Webster, the Valery Ponomarev Jazz Big Band, the David White Jazz Orchestra, Slykumu, Jazzbollah, Chris Norton, and Photos of Wagons. He has performed at the Blue Note, Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Bowl and the 9:30 Club in D.C.
He is a lifelong educator and music teacher whose primary interests are instrumental performance, improvisation, composition, music theory and history. A New York State certified music teacher, Dan has four years of classroom experience and nearly fourteen years experience as a private teacher. His students have gone on to win several awards and scholarships including outstanding solo awards at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington Competition.
As a pianist, he has been accompanying musical improv comedy troupes for over ten years. As a freelance web designer, Dan builds attractive and affordable sites for artists, musicians, and writers.
